International Contribution

Our university actively dispatches faculty members and researchers to improve standards of health and welfare for people worldwide. We welcome trainees from foreign countries at the request of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other international organizations.

“Maternal and Child Health for French speaking African Countries” and the “Training Program for Japanese Descendants” has been consigned from JICA since 2007.

In addition, our university has been accepting Russian scholars from Sakhalin from 1992.

Visits from scholars from Sakhalin stem from a 1990 incident involving a boy named Konstantin. Suffering from a serious burn injury, Konstantin was transported from Sakhalin to our hospital for an emergency operation. On this occasion, many people in Japan donated money necessary for treating Konstantin. This was the origin of the fund which exists today—known as the Kosucha Fund—and used to support medical exchanges between Hokkaido and Sakhalin.
