Summary

Magnetization$B!>(Jprepared rapid gradient echo (MP$B!>(JRAGE), one of the 3$B!>(Jdimensional magnetic resonance imaging (3D$B!>(JMRI) techniques, has excellent spatial resolution.
We attempted to depict the cranial nerves in reconstructed images using this thin seqential slice method. We also examined whether this imaging technique could be used clinically after studying resolution of the tissue in order to collect images in a short time.
T1$B!>(Jweighted type of MP-RAGE now has a sequence involving both a non-selective inversion pulse and 2 types of RF$B!>(Jpulse (selective exitation and non$B!>(Jselective exitation), which can make various image contrasts by changing the preconditions of inversion time (TI) and flip angle(FA). While a large matrix produces a high signal to noise ratio (SNR), a smaller matrix for enhancing spatial resolution lowers SNR.
In order to depict the cranial nerves, a very high resolution is needed. In MP$B!>(JRAGE, however, image quality is easily affected by fluctuations in SNR, and we used a phase-encording matrix size of 160 to maintain a stable SNR. In this case, a FOV of 250mm, and a slub number of partitions of 128 led to a voxel of 1. 56$B!_(J1. 25$B!_(J0. 97mm.
We succeded in depicting the cranial nerves except for the olfactory and trochlear nerves. However, it should be noted that visualization of the cranial nerves by MP$B!>(JRAGE in the case of short time imaging has limitations to the spatial resolution.
